Heritage Encounters
The Litvak Studies Institute offers high-level cultural and historic discovery tours of the Litvak heritage in Lithuania, Belarus and the other native Litvak lands. Special focus is given to the interface of Yiddish culture and Litvak Studies. Through close partnerships and relationships, local experts provide supplementary heritage guidance in exploring the Lithuanian, Belarusian, Latvian and other neighboring peoples.
Literary focused tours include visits to the hometowns and precise settings of famous works of great Yiddish and Hebrew authors who hail from the Litvak lands.
Religious and cultural tours include the Mussar movement of Salant (far west of the Litvak region), the Chabad chasidic tradition (in the far east, extending to Lubavitch/Lubavichy, now in Russia just across the Belarusian border), and of course, the large central historic stronghold of Lithuanian misnagdism, in many famous shtetls, and in its prime cities (Brisk/Brest, Grodno, Vilna/Vilnius, Kovno/Kaunas and more).
